Bettiah is the headquarters of West Champaran district in the Indian state of Bihar, near the Indo-Nepal border, 205 Kilometres north-west of Patna. Bettiah, pronounced as 'Betiya', derived its name from 'baint' (A special type of plant which is similar to cane; used for furniture making and also finds its application during festivities). It was grown here extensively in the past but not at present.
Bettiah has an average elevation of 65 metres (213 ft). Bettiah has hot summers and chilling winters. In summers the temperature goes up to 44-46 degrees Celsius while in winters the temperature goes as low as 2–5 degrees Celsius. It has heavy annual rainfall of about 200–240 cm which often causes floods. Bettiah lies in the alluvial plains of gandak basin. It is located near the River Gandak. A small rainfeeded river named Kohda (Red Pumpkin in Hindi) crosses this city . A forest reserve area near Bettiah called 'Udaypur forest area' (Udaypur Jungle), is under the tiger saving project called 'Valmiki Vyaghra Pariyojana'.
Presance of very good doctors, schools, near by sugar mills and shopping malls makes Bettiah a very good economical market. Its a very fast growing part of Bihar near to Indo-Nepal Border. Being very near to nepal and Uttarpradesh makes Bettiah a very important part of Bihar for import and export of goods for business purpose.
Bettiah is situated in the main route of Kesharia, Lauria(NandanGarh), Valmikinagar, Kushinagar, Varanashi, which makes Bettiah a very good passing by tourism (Boudhist) place.

Bada Ramna of Bettiah is hub of Sports in Bettiah. People of bettiah do not have the facility of Cricket Stadium but Cricket is being played here in a very good and sporting spirit. Bettiah has a history of Football and having a football stadium in a part of Bada Ramna makes this sport more intersting. In bettiah many active club of Cricket and Football are promoting their players with a very good aim. The very first Indoor stadium of bettiah is under construction.
